To be admitted to a course of study at DHBW, students must be fluent in German. Students will need to provide certification of their proficiency in German before the start date of the respective programme. Recognised certification includes DSH 2 or TestDaF Level 4, which are approximately equivalent to Level C1 in the Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR).
To build up knowledge of the German language, students will undergo a 9 month-long intensive programme at the Goethe-Institute in Singapore from August to April. The courses will cover CEFR Levels A1, A2, B1 and B2. After completion of the language courses, participants take a first TestDaF test at the Goethe-Institute in Singapore.
In early May, students will leave for Germany and participate in an immersion programme of up to 3-4 months at DHBW Mannheim. Students will get extra C1 and test preparation in case they need to resit the TestDaF test. In August, students will move on to their respective DHBW campus and participate in the preparatory courses together with their fellow German students. The regular bachelor’s degree programmes will then start on 1 October each year.
